1999 – Forearm Supination Study

Supination Study completed by 3 masters of Occupational Therapy students at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. The students used McKie’s research videotapes to assess changes in supination in the 4 children in her study. Results: All of the children gained approximately 15 degrees of supination. 2011 - Effect of Thumb Opponens Splints on Hand Function In Children

A Systematic Evaluation of the Effect of Thumb Opponens Splints on Hand Function In Children with Unilateral Spastic Cerebral Palsy, (authors Sabine R Ten Berge, Anne Boontra, Pieter Dijkstra,Mijna Hadders-Algra, Nienke Haga, Carel Maathuis). The study was published in Clinical Rehabilitation, April 2012, vol. 26 no. 4, pages 362-371. This study included 7 children ages 2-7 with hemiplegic cerebral palsy and used a multiple baseline across individuals design. All of the children wore the McKie Thumb splint for 2 months. The results: 6 of the 7 children showed measureable improvements in function and quality of grasp. 4 of the children retained improved skill even after the splint use was discontinued. Learn More →
