In 1999, three masters of occupational therapy students at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, reviewed the videotapes from McKie’s original research. The intent of the study was to determine whether using a supinator strap with the splint actually assisted forearm supination in the study participants. 3D motion analysis was not available from the original tapes, so the students taught themselves and became measurably proficient at determining degrees of supination when examining 2 dimensional pictures. They established inter-rater reliability.
